Happy New Year and a huge thanks again to everyone who has made our book club so special and continues to come out to share their books!  On to the book list/recap:

Matt read my pick from last month, Outsider by Steven King.  He enjoyed the classic King monster story.

Shana finished Ashley’s pick, The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss. She is looking forward to more reading time as she transitions to working days instead of nights.

Tracey brought several books to share, Secret Silent Screams by Joan Lowery Nixon, a retro YA about a misinterpreted suicide. I’m borrowing it for the month.  She also read Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira where the author writes to various historical figures of the past.  Also, Mother Mother, a dysfunctional family drama by Koren Zailckas.

I read two early in the month before things got crazy: Nine Perfect Strangers by Laine Moriarty, and Guts, by Kristen Johnson.  Thanks so much, Ross, for recommending that book.  It was absolutely devoured!

I was so glad for Jennifer to join us for the first time last night!  She gave us a taste of a book she is reading called The Storytellers Secret by Sejal Bedani.  I can’t wait to hear more about it when she is finished.  Her daughters joined us as well and Piper was so sweet to present to us The Hungry Caterpillar, When You Give A Mouse A Cookie, and Charlotte’s Web.

Don is working his way through The World Looked Away: Vietnam After the War by Dave Bushy and Riding with George: Sportsmanship and Chivalry in the Making of Americas First President by Phillip G. Smucker.

Ashley enjoyed reading The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld and Alice Isn’t Dead by Joseph Fink, a book based on a podcast series that fits well into Ashley’s “strange fiction” preferences. Ross is hoping to find the podcast to listen to it.

Ross loved reading Find Me by Rosie O’Donnell.  She recommended it to me and her vague teaser has me intrigued!  She also continues to sing the praises of Mitch Albom’s The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto.  Maria is borrowing it for the month and Matt is listening to it on audible.

Maria brought in the Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin. Despite the first page, it was one of the best books of 2018 about  siblings who find out the days they will die from a fortune teller.  Ross is borrowing it for the month and I can’t wait to hear her take on it.

Thanks again as always for coming out last night. If you weren’t able to make it, you were missed!  Hope to see you all next month.

Happy reading!
