This month’s book club was a little smaller, a little darker, and a little cooler, but still lot’s of fun. Thanks to everyone who came out. If you weren’t able to make it, we missed you!
Ashley read one of Mariya’s picks from last month, The Great Green Room by Amy Gary. And to get in the Halloween spirit, she read Johannes Cabal the Necromancer by Jonathan L. Howard, the first of a series.
Shana read another of Mariya’s choices, Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey. She also read a The 18th Abduction by James Patterson, one of the Woman’s Murder Club books she cannot recommend. She is enjoying but still reading Christiana’s pick from last month, A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley.
For the second time in First Thursday Book Club history, the same book was brought in to share for the first time by two members on the same night! No Exit by Taylor Adams is a fast moving thriller about one night of terror at a snowed in rest stop. Christiana and Hugh both enjoyed it. Ashley and I are borrowing their copies this month. I can’t wait to dive into it! I’m sure it will be finished by tomorrow. Hugh also shared a self published author Steve Niles, The Savage Membrane.
Christiana also Shared Ismael, a philosophical fable by Daniel Quinn, and fun graphic novel called Sheets by Brenna Thumbler. She really enjoyed The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow. Her description reminds me of The Starless Sea. Ashley is borrowing it this month, and I may have to give it a try later.
Barbara came to fellowship and hear about everyone’s reading selections for the month. She is finishing Ken Follet’s The Pillars of the Earth.
I read one of Ashley’s recent reads, Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel. Matt read it last month and Hugh is borrowing it next. Shana is borrowing Dear Emma by Katie Heaney. I also enjoyed The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd. I can’t wait to hear what Christiana thinks about it next month.
I am hoping for clear and not too cold weather for next month. Hoping to see everyone again on December 3rd! Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
