Shana has embraced beach reading season with a stack of books to share! Lots of fun and relaxing chick-lit selections: One Day in December by Josie Silver, Pride Prejudice and Jasmine Field by Melissa Nathan, Austenand by Shannon Hall, Beach Town by Mary Kay Andrews, and Orphan Train by Kristina Baker Kline. Ross is borrowing Orphan Train.
Christiana finished Wish You Well by David Baldacci and now I really need to read it, it sounds great.
Ashley borrowed one of my picks, The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo. She liked it even less than I did. It was strange for sure. She also read Voices: The Final Hours of Joan of Arc by David Elliot, written in poetry, and Prime Meridian by Silvia Garcia. Don is borrowing Prime Meridian this month.
Don read some of Matt’s pick, Bad Blood by John Carreyrou. He also enjoyed two aviation memiors: Cannibal Queen by Steven Coontz and Solo: My Adventures in the Air by Clyde Edgerton. Don has shared several books from his Ivan Doig collection. Matt is giving one a try this month.
Ross liked many of the essays from Dillan’s pick last month, We Learn Nothing by Tim Kreider. I’m going to try them out this month. I need something short to sample while I get over the major book hangover I’m suffering from. Hopefully we will see Dillon again soon.
Yes, it’s official, I have a new favorite book of all time. Most of my life I could have never chosen one, but Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist held that spot for a short while. But, Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts is the one for me. Ross is borrowing it this month and I can’t WAIT to hear her thoughts.
Ruthann couldn’t be with us this month, but brought her selections and more importantly her reviews to me ahead of time. She enjoyed her first taste of Lisa Gardner with Never Tell, and also The Woman I was Born to Be from Susan Boyle. I think we enjoyed her recap of Ashley’s pick Mem by Bethany C. Morrow the best, although it was not as scathing as her previous reports. We love when you can be here with us Ruthann! But we might love your ruthless reviews even more!
Maria read one of my picks, Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison. It reads similarly to Gone Girl, but really isn’t as good. She and Matt both read Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan which several of us have enjoyed now.
Matt read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. He liked it and it sounded really good! But part one of an unfinished trilogy does give some unease. Thank you so much for donating the Game of Thrones books to the jail! They will LOVE them, that was awesome.
Thank’s again to everyone who came out for another great discussion. I’m pretty proud of myself for getting the blog out this quickly. Realistically I was motivated by the desire to clear my schedule so I can start on this painting project. Eeeek! Wish me luck. Hopefully next time you stop by it will be a work in productive progress, not a disaster that I have painted over haha. Thanks again! And don’t forget next month is the 2nd Thursday.
